The metallic Toblerone sculpture is at 38.343075°N, 109.666183°W which is actually about 30 miles away from Bluejohn canyon. Of course there are no roads connecting these two remote areas.
I doubt the small gorge directly behind the sculpture was used in any of the main shots in the film. However, because one end of that small gorge opens up to that spacious clearing it does seem plausible that it could have been a good location for filming moderately close-up shots without the encumbrance of a fully enclosed gorge. Hollywood magic.
It should be possible to cross-reference satellite data to see when the monolith appears (see if it shows up around 2010).
